All about Apple Day

Since 2000, the Millennium Orchard has played host to 'Apple Fest', to celebrate National Apple Day. The annual festival is aimed at raising awareness about the importance of preserving traditional apple varieties, traditional landscapes and the countryside in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Apple Fest 2007

Members of the public are invited to attend a free festival to celebrate Apple Day at the East Riding's newest Local Nature Reserve. East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Apple Fest will appeal to all ages and will be held on Sunday 14th October 2007 at the Millennium Orchard, Beverley Parks from 11am to 3pm.

The event has been organised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Countryside Access Team. Funding for the event has been provided by the East Yorkshire Federation of Women's Institutes, Local Heritage Initiative and East Riding of Yorkshire Council. Amongst the activities planned for the Apple Fest are Falconry displays, environmental art, face painting, charcoal burning and marquees packed with countryside activities and information.

The Women's Institute will be providing a multitude of apple related sweets and savouries to taste, whilst the Northern Fruit Group will be on hand to identify apple varieties. Please bring 3 typical examples.

The Apple Fest at Beverley Parks is a wonderful opportunity to find out about preserving apples, traditional landscapes and crafts. With a wide range of activities for all the family set in one of East Riding's most fascinating nature reserves, this really will be a great way to spend a Sunday. And it's free too!
